Design Technologist

Walmart eCommerce

Owned the prototyping platform's deployment and built AI-driven prototypes on Walmart's internal models.

What I worked on

  • Owned the process of exposing the production prototyping platform to the internet, managing deployment pipelines and CI/CD.
  • Built prototypes leveraging Walmart's internal large language model (LLM) and in-house computer vision models for furniture detection.

Projects

Walmart Grocery App

  • Built on top of a cloned version of the production app.
  • Built with React and Walmart's in-house Node.js framework (based on hapi.js).
  • Built prototypes aimed at getting more shoppers to build bigger carts:
    • A meal / recipe feature.
    • Used items already in the user's favorites.
    • Encouraged shoppers to add an entire recipe to the cart at once.

United Healthcare App

  • Partnered with United Healthcare to build a web app that helped users find items covered by their insurance.
  • Created a "walled garden" experience — users could switch between the default Walmart experience and the UnitedHealthcare experience.
  • Built on the prototyping platform using React and Walmart's data services.

iOS Voice App

  • Built with SwiftUI on top of Walmart's in-house NLP engine.

Capital One Onboarding App

  • Built a prototype used in-store to test Capital One's signup flow.
  • Built with Create React App and deployed on an Azure server.

Lotus Prototyping Platform

  • Developed with Walmart's in-house Node platform and React.
  • Designed to host multiple apps in one place.
  • Enabled user testing outside of Walmart's firewall.

Machine Learning Service

  • Built with Docker and TensorFlow Serving.
  • Partnered with data scientists to package their models and deployed them on Walmart's Kubernetes clusters.
  • Powered a style-guide prototype that found couches based on an image the user uploaded.

Data Lunch & Learn

  • Ran a workshop using Postman and Sketch to show designers the power of using production data instead of canned data in mockups.
  • Walked designers through using Postman and importing a collection of pre-configured services.
  • Showed them how to export data from Postman into Sketch and attach it to their mockups.

Data Fetching Scripts

  • Created a set of scripts to fetch data for various prototyping functions used by designers across the organization.
