Software Engineer II

Partnered with design research on buy-side prototypes and owned tooling to accelerate iteration.
What I worked on
- Partnered with design research to build buy-side prototypes using production data.
- Owned internal tooling to accelerate prototype iteration using Agile and Scrum methodologies.
More information: Multiple Top Picks (MTP)
Background
Multiple Top Picks (MTP) is a way of displaying the different options a user has when they land on a product page. The tabs were condition-based:
- Brand New
- New (other)
- Refurbished
- Pre-owned
Partners: the Product Page PM and Research.
Problem
How does a user interact with more than three tabs? New business needs required the UI to support more than three tabs and to let users interact with all of them in some way. To make room for more than three options, a new user experience needed to be designed.
Approach
- Met with the PM to talk through and whiteboard ideas, and to decide whether high-fidelity prototyping would be useful for the project.
- Once we had a handful of directions, we started building the prototypes.
Concepts
- Concept 1 — an option-select dropdown at the top of the page.
- Concept 2 — a design similar to the search guidance module.
- Concept 3 — a tab carousel.
User testing
Six participants came in to use the prototypes.
Result
We decided to go with the carousel of tabs.
